Mustang Trekking
 

Mustang, Desert in the Mountains is situated to the north of Annapurna Massif and is a region that receives scanty rainfall as compared to the rest of Nepal. The region is inhabited by the people following Buddhism as their major religion with some touch of local practices that has evolved since time immemorial. Stone structure is the main feature of the construction style of the region and not a single construction is untouched by this architectural style. All the houses, gates, pavements etc. in villages are the living example of this kind of architecture. The land is very dry with scanty vegetation. As this region is regarded as the Desert in the Mountains, a trek in this region can be enjoyable any time of the year. This is a secluded region with very shy but hospitable people. A visit to this region will certainly give a pre-experience before going for a trip to Tibet. This region lies to the north of Annapurna Region and trek to the destinations in this region can be combined with trek in Annapurna Region. Mustang is still regarded as a restricted Area and for a trek in this region; special formalities need to be completed before venturing this trek.

7 Days Lower Mustang Trekking

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu, transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Fly to Jomsom in the morning either from Kathmandu or Pokhara. Proceed to Tukuche after breakfast. Night at Tukuche.
Day 03: Night halt at twin village of Larjung/Kobang, the cultural and religious center of the Thakali community.
Day 04: Night halt at Marpha, comparatively new settlement of the Thakalis from old Marpha which is within walking distance.
Day 05: Night halt at Jomsom, administrative center of Mustang District. Nearby is the old village Thini.
Day 06: Fly out to either Pokhara or Kathmandu in the morning. Sight seeing
Day 07: Departure.

14 Days Mustang Trekking

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu. Transfer to a hotel.
Day 02
: Arrival at Jomsom in the morning from either Pokhara or Kathmandu. Spend the morning going through the formalities required for the trip. Proceed to Kagbeni after lunch. It is north of Kagbeni that your special permit come into effect. Stay the night at Kagbeni.
Day 03
: Ride to Chaile, passing through the villages of Tangbe and Chuksang. Chaile is the first village on the trip this is outside the Kali Gandaki valley. Then follow a steep trail to Samar, a major halt for horse and mule caravans.
Day 04: This day involves a series of descents and ascents - the highest point being Nije La (pass, 3,950 meters), the southern boundary of Lo. Night halt at Ghami on the banks of the Ghami Khola (river).
Day 05: Ride to Charang, which has an ancient monastery as well as the remains of an old Dzong (fortress). After lunch at Charang, which is famous for its association with Japanese monk-explorer Ekai Kawaguchi, continue to Lomanthang for the night.
Day 06: Sight seeing of Lomanthang.
Day 07: Take pony trips to Chhoseer and Chhonup villages and monasteries and return to Lo in the evening.
Day 08: Reach village of Marang via Lo Ghyakar, which has an ancient monastery. Ride on to Ghiling which is famous for its monasteries.
Day 09: Come back to Tetang enroute to Mukhinath.
Day 10: Reach Mukhtinath in the afternoon.
Day 11: Ride down to Jomsom in the after noon.
Day 12: Fly out to either Pokhara or Kathmandu in the morning.
Day 13: Sight-seeing in Kathmandu
Day 14: Departure.

17 Days Mustang Trek

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu , transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Arrival at Jomsom in the morning either from Pokhara or Kathmandu. Morning spent breakfasting and completing official formalities for the trip. Walk to Kagbeni after lunch. Your special permit comes into effect only north of Kagbeni.
Day 03: Enter the upper Mustang valley following the Kali Gandaki river passing through the village of Tangbe and Chhusang. Cross the Kali Gandaki river before reaching the village of Chaile.
Day 04: The route now leaves the Kali Gandaki valley and climbs up to Samar and continues towards Shyangboche and night halt at Tama Gaon.
Day 05: This day you cross Nyili La (pass, 3,950 meters) before descending to the village of Ghami from where a couple of hours or so will bring you to Charang with its ancient Dzong (fortress) and monastery. It is here that a Japanese monk-explorer spent a considerable amount of time studying Tibetan Buddhism.
Day 06: Take an easy walk to Lomanthang and spend the afternoon exploring in and around the town.
Day 07: Take pony ride to the village of Chhosar and neighbouring monasteries.
Day 08: Trip to Chhonup Village, sightseeing monastery.
Day 09: Reach village of Marang via Lo Ghayakar, famous for old monastery.
Day 10: Walk down to Ghiling, a famous seat of Buddhist learning.
Day 11: This day you walk along the same way you had walked before and stop at Samar for the night.
Day 12: Descend to the village of Tetang situated outside the Kali Gandaki valley to the east.
Day 13: Trip to Muktinath via Tetang/Mhyepila Make a stiff climb to Mhyepi La (pass) from where a magnificent view of Muktinath and its neighbouring villages against a backdrop of mountains can be seen. Descend along an extended pasture to Muktinath.
Day 14: Rest day at Muktinath.
Day 15: Take an easy walk down to Jomsom and the remaining part of the day can be spent roaming around Jomsom.
Day 16: Fly out in the morning either to Pokhara or Kathmandu. Sight-seeing/rest.
Day 17
: Departure.

21 Days Mustang Trekking

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu. Meet at the airport and transfer to Hotel.
Day 02: Free day in Kathmandu and trekking permit arrangements.
Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu-Pokhara
Day 04: Drive to Beni (If the road is not very good, we drive up to Baglung and commence trek)
Day 05: Trek towards to Tatopani following the opposite course of the Kaligandaki river valley.
Day 06: Tatopani - Ghasa
Day 07: Ghasa - Marpha
Day 08
: Marpha - Kagbeni
Day 09: Kagbeni - Chele
Day 10: Chele - Geling
Day 11: Geling - Charang
Day 12: Charang - Lo Manthang
Day 13: Lo Manthang
Day 14: Lo Manthang
Day 15: Lo Manthang - Ghami via Gekar
Day 16: Ghami - Samar
Day 17 and 18: Samar - Kagbeni
